I love me some caffeine

So this past week I've been trying to give up caffeine.  I figure I'm an anxiety ridden mess as it is so it was time to end my unhealthy chemical dependence in an effort to calm my frazzled self down. Plus my tolerance is so high that I have to drink a ton to feel anything and then I can't concentrate anyway, and then I crash.   The plan was to slowly eliminate in order to avoid the headaches, lethargy. I was doing okay, cup of tea instead of coffee. Half of a soda. I did eat chocolate which was two strikes with the caffeine and the calories.  But for me, still pretty good.  UNTIL NOW It's about 3 in the morning. I went to go see Mama Mia and didn't eat dinner before I went. I resisted the popcorn even though I had coupon for a free one...the smell is torturous when you can smell it and it seems like everyone in the theater has it, and you're hungry. The only reason I didn't end up caving is because I didn't want to lose my seat. Anyhow, after the movie I stopped at Taco Bell and ended up getting a soda.  I guess I must have been adjusting to less because here I am watching sci-fi, cooking tomorrow nights dinner, and can't sleep.  

*Update on 8/17/08.......I'm still drinking less, caffeine that is, but I totally caved with soda.....who can resist a refreshing carbonated beverage when it's a thousand degrees outside...

Well, it sounds like you're starting out just fine. Like you said, start slow.
Have you tried stuff like Vitamin Water? They have some good flavors, and no caffeine. When I had to give up soda, that's what I turned to.
